Grantsdale is three miles from Hamilton. It was named for H. H. Grant, a landowner who built the first flour mill and kept the first store in this area. (from Cheney’s Names on the Face of Montana, Mountain Press Publishing Company) Grantsdale was on the Northern Pacific’s Missoula-to-Grantsdale spur line.
